Madera Sculptures - Wood sculptures in all styles

My Statement

I can honestly say that Learning is my life’s passion.  It is for this reason I find great comfort and stimulation in the process of weaving my ideas into reality.

Sculpture has been an enduring expression throughout the ages.   As a form of communication, this medium allows us to see into the past and sometimes what is yet to be.  Art can transcend time and help to inspire our creativity and sense of wonder.  As sculptors we transform our experiences into visual and tactile images that are only limited by our imagination.

I was eighteen years old when I found a teacher to nurture and develop my natural talent.  This teacher shared his knowledge of wood sculpting, art as a business, and encouraged me to develop the skills necessary succeed in the arts.  I am grateful to the Creator for my natural talent, my parents for their continued loving support, and Matt Welter for his teachings and guidance that have been critical to the fulfillment of my dreams.

My personal development and learning will be life long, and I will have many teachers. As I look to the future with my dreams before me, I intend to make my contribution to the world with every work of art I create.

Experience

Wood Sculpture --

Having studied as a full-time apprentice with professional sculptor, Matthew Welter, at Timeless Sculptures (TS) Studio, my sculpture training focused on large scale wood sculpture with emphasis on realism and natural design, some wax modeling, sculptured furniture and indoor/outdoor finishing techniques.

Installations—During my six-year tenure at Timeless Sculptures I performed countless Installations of commissioned artwork many of which required special planning and installation techniques. Many of the custom sculptures I completed were considered “onsite” (meaning sculptured from existing trees).

Administrative Skills -- The skills to run a business and market one’s artwork is essential for a successful art career. During my tenure with TS, we were encouraged to participate in a marketing program, and instructed on how to work with customers in designing custom sculpture and home furnishings, organized indoor and outdoor gallery display, develop and maintained relationships with local businesses, and coordinated and oversaw ongoing apprenticeship program activities.

Studio Manager -- As Studio Manager, I made sure all tools and equipment were in good working order, supervised and assisted in the installation of all new equipment, ordered materials and supplies, and was responsible for maintaining a clean and well-organized working environment.

Over all my experience at Timeless sculptures shaped my understanding of art processes and taught us the necessary skills to be  successful as an artist....
